AMERICAN SADDLEBRED HORSE FUTURITY OF IOWA, INC.

The Board of Directors of the American Saddlebred Horse Futurity of Iowa, Inc. met on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Horse barn during the Springfest Horse Show.

The meeting was called to order at 3:35pm by Alan Burnison. Board members present included Allen Hartz, Alan Burnison, Joel Roberts, Dawn Striegel, Carolyn Haselhuhn, Casey McMahon, Eric McAtee and Jackie Rongish. Absent was Judy Steenhoek.

The minutes from the January 24, 2009 board of directors meeting were also presented. A motion to approve the minutes as read was made by Alan Burnison and seconded by Joel Roberts. Minutes were accepted.

Old Business:

v Exhibitor Party from 2008 show

· Alan getting finalized cost and will send out email on cost per person

· Allen to talk to Mark Van Zomeren about his share

New Business:

v Futurity Board

· Allen Hartz has decided to resign from the futurity board, effective immediately

· Vice-President Alan Burnison has agreed to take over the President’s position

· Dawn Striegel was nominated by Eric McAtee to become Vice-President. The board approved this nomination

· Board members will submit names of people who would be interested in becoming part of our board – the names / supporting information for these possible nominees should be emailed to all other board members prior to the next meeting, so we can be prepared to discuss the nominations

v 2009 Iowa Fall Classic

· Is the class schedule set yet? Need to follow-up with Judy S

o Hope to see more classes in between weanling classes on Saturday

· Raffle/auction discussion

o Discussed having 1-2 bigger items for a raffle

§ Some ideas included: blanket (Eric to check), stained glass (Joel), mirror (Joel/Allen), calendar page

§ Dawn to check on printing of tickets

§ Eric / Dawn will lead this effort and provide information back to rest of board

o Possibly have other items to auction off during stallion auction

v Breeder’s Stake

· Next auction

§ Will not be having it at the 2009 Iowa Fall Classic

· Note added to nomination information indicating auction is being relocated

§ Will probably have auction in conjunction with IHSA meetings / banquet

· Joel to discuss with Bob Langford and get information / cost

v Futurity

· Reviewed the changes for this year

o Unshod class as ‘shown by amateur’

o ‘Order of go’ in all in-hand classes will be set by futurity secretary

· Forms – mail vs. email

o Email will be sent to members with known email addresses to see if they would get forms from website or preferred them mailed – hopefully, cut down on postage

v Website

· Dawn would like to get more pictures added, so send any you have to her

· Need to find someone to take rail shots at this year’s show since Kathy is not available

v Calendar

· Added note about calendar on ad for IHSA magazine

· Need someone to make posters for show

· Jackie to send calendar pages to Dawn, so she can add to website

v Other new business

o Discussion on how to determine if weanling is eligible for ‘color’ class – due to questionable foal in last year’s class

§ Today, we go with color on registration and looks

§ Jackie to call ASHA futurity to see if there is anything else we can do and how to handle those in question

o Discussion on how to enforce new Amateur rule for Unshod Weanling Jackpot

§ Should be same as for other amateur classes at show

§ Jackie to review with ASHA also

Carolyn Haselhuhn made a motion to adjourn the meeting, with a second by Eric McAtee. The meeting adjourned at 4:55pm.
